Columbia City Cinema has had to cancel their free kids DVD showings. To quote the source:
Unfortunately, we’ll all be crying in our green beer this weekend. The free kids dvds on Saturday morning are immediately canceled. Seems various distributors don’t like the idea of free movies. Or apparently kids either. Our first reaction was “You’ve got to be kidding.” With movie piracy, illegal downloading, and schools, churches, taverns, clubs, neighborhood associations, restaurants and outdoor movie groups all over the country playing dvds, you’d think they wouldn’t bother with a few kids watching a Saturday morning cartoon. But there’s no way out. We have to stop. We will miss all the fun we had. Hope you enjoyed it while it lasted.
I am crushed, and can’t believe (except I can) that film distributors would be so blind. It was only after seeing Flushed Away one Saturday in Columbia City that I picked up the DVD. Without that showing, I probably wouldn’t have bothered. Grr. Argh.
