The popular library program, encouraging kids to read or be read to, is back. Sign up online or at your local library, where you’ll receive a reading log. For every book your child reads (or that you read to them — meaning even your youngest can participate!), they’ll receive a sticker (just make sure to record the title of the book on their reading log). Once 10 books have been finished, your child wins a paperback book of their choice! Finished with 10 before August 3rd? Your child will be entered into a contest to win breakfast at the Sheraton Hotel with the other “Champions” of summer reading.
In addition to the great incentives to read, the Summer Reading Program means a lot of great workshops and performers at various SPL Branches throughout the season. Whether it’s learning to Make a Manga, coming face to face with live raptors from the Zoo, or practicing the Peg-Leg Tango with the bucaneer crew of Captain Bogg & Salty, there’s plenty to learn, see, and do at your local library this Summer. Be sure to pick up the June issue of Parent Map to see a full schedule of library events. Happy reading!
