Trick or Treat?

We relied on the ol’ Two Treat Bowls trick: one filled with fruit snacks for those trick or treaters that couldn’t be bothered with a costume, and one filled with chocolate for those that tried. Anyone else feel they had to resort to such measures?

  1. As we only had one trick-or-treater that wasn’t a problem for us. The benefit of living near, but not in, a very wealthy neighborhood that goes all out for the trick-or-treaters.

  2. Hello Hausfrau!

    Great site!

Sind Sie auch Deutsch? I blog a bit about German.

  3. Our problem was trying to get trick or treaters at all. We had, like, 3 groups. Now we are stuck with mountains of candy, aching to go directly to my thighs…

  4. …and stay there.

  5. We bought candy on the last day and we left the light on till about 8:30pm. We got about 5 groups, but most of the kids weren’t in costume. Being the first time I chose to pass out candy I asked why no costumes and was given the “we can’t afford them” look. Hopefully by next halloween we will be living in a different subdivision where people will make an effort, but I really did want someone else to address the “what to do about people who don’t come in costume”. Now I know… give them fruit and they will be more motivated next time πŸ˜›

  6. Karla — my German is limited by my complete inability to pronounce the language. But my father used to read to me in it, and I loved hearing the children’s books in German as a kid.

Cheddarina — I think my leftover candy is lonely, and should go and join you.

rasc — I’ll admit, the little ones with no costume and no parents? They got Chocolate. Hopefully, things will improve over time. And of course, I’ll keep sending my daughter out in costume to make the rounds (with parent too, thank you) in the hopes of upping the local standard.
